Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to develop and commonly appear between the ages of 17 and 25. While some wisdom teeth grow normally and never cause problems, many become impacted or difficult to clean, leading to pain, infection and damage to neighbouring teeth.

At Morris Dental we provide wisdom tooth assessment and removal with a focus on careful planning, patient comfort and clear communication throughout the process. Treatment options range from simple extractions through to more complex surgical wisdom tooth removal depending on the position of the teeth and surrounding structures.

Signs Your Wisdom Teeth May Be Causing Problems

Wisdom teeth do not always cause obvious symptoms immediately. Common signs that wisdom teeth may need assessment include:

  • Pain or pressure at the back of the mouth
  • Swelling or tenderness around the gums
  • Difficulty opening the jaw fully
  • Food trapping around the back teeth
  • Repeated infections or gum inflammation
  • Bad taste or bad breath
  • Crowding or pressure on nearby teeth
  • Decay developing around partially erupted wisdom teeth

In some cases wisdom teeth can cause damage without noticeable symptoms, which is why routine examination and x-rays are important.

When Should Wisdom Teeth Be Checked?

For most people, wisdom teeth should be assessed during the late teenage years or early twenties. At this stage the roots are often not fully formed, which can make treatment simpler and healing faster if removal is required.

Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed. Our approach is to carefully evaluate each case and recommend treatment only when there is a clear long term benefit to your oral health.

Faq's

Dental implants have the best chance of success if the bone is given time to bond with the implant before adding the new tooth. The minimum time we recommend is three months. If the tooth has been recently extracted, the bone may require an additional 2-3 months to heal prior to implant placement.
