Home / Dental Services / Treatment for Bleeding Gums
Gum disease is one of the top causes of tooth loss, affecting many people. Untreated gum disease can also cause problems with your overall health. Common signs include bleeding gums, bad breath, and loose teeth. Gum disease (periodontitis) results in the breakdown of the ligament and bone that hold your teeth in place. Early detection and regular care are key to managing the condition.
In many cases, bleeding gums during brushing or flossing occur because certain areas are missed during daily cleaning. Plaque and bacteria left undisturbed along the gumline irritate the gums, causing them to bleed. At Morris Dental, we focus on teaching proper oral hygiene habits to prevent future dental concerns.
We’ll help you identify problem areas using coloured dyes and work with you to develop better brushing and flossing techniques. During each exam, we remove soft plaque using EMS Airflow and target hardened plaque with gentle ultrasonics, leaving your smile feeling fresh and clean.
If gum disease has progressed beyond the help of routine cleaning, we may recommend a deep cleaning procedure known as debridement. This is a process where we carefully remove bacteria from areas below the gums. This treatment is done over two visits, and we use local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout.
For more advanced cases, additional care from a periodontist may be necessary, and we can refer you for specialist treatment.
